Gateshead Civic Centres Town Halls
This was Gateshead's third building to be officially designated town hall. The foundation stone ceremony in 1868 was marred when a spectator stand collapsed causing one fatal injury. The building opened in 1870 and remained the centre of Gateshead's civic life until the present Civic Centre was opened in 1987
